Created almost 450 years ago, this is the first ever printed map of England and Wales published by Christopher Saxton, the father of British cartography. My prints of this map are based on one of the finest examples of one of the best and rarest maps of England and Wales.
There's an incredible level of detail on this map, with most towns, cities and even some villages in England and Wales clearly visible. (with a bit of Scotland and Ireland).
This old map was hand coloured almost 450 years ago and, as you can see, is still in amazing condition for a map of this age.
Most of the villages and towns are labelled in Late Middle and Early Modern English, which is nice as you should be able to recognise most place names. Take a look and see if you can spot your home town!
This map is wondrously decorative. Take a look at the waters around the British Isles - dotted with ships, giant fish, and other beasties.
This map will be completely sharp at all sizes. The original size of this map was close to 16x20 inches (40x50cm), but it looks fantastic at all sizes. I can print it at sizes up to 70 inches (180cm) wide - at that size it would make the perfect statement piece for a pub, bar, hotel, office or other hosting space.
You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that really makes our maps pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame. We use super-clear
acrylic (perspex/acrylite) in our frames - it's less reflective than glass and better for transport.
This map is also available as a float framed canvas, sometimes known as a shadow gap framed canvas or canvas floater. The map is printed on artist's cotton canvas and then stretched over a handmade box frame. We then "float" the canvas inside a wooden frame, which is available in a range of colours (black, dark brown, oak, antique gold and white). This is a wonderful way to present a map without glazing in front. See some examples of float framed canvas maps and explore the differences between my different finishes.
For something truly unique, this map is also available in "Unique 3D", our trademarked process that dramatically transforms the map so that it has a wonderful sense of depth. We combine the original map with detailed topography and elevation data, so that mountains and the terrain really "pop". For more info and examples of 3D maps, check my Unique 3D page.
