Wengen appears here not as an isolated resort, but as part of a grand Jungfrau panorama: a wide, high-relief view that stretches across snowy summits, deep valleys and the lake country below. The map’s distinctive character lies in that breadth. Wengen sits near the centre-right of the scene, tucked beneath Männlichen, Lauberhorn and Kleine Scheidegg, while the whole composition opens outward to Grindelwald on one side, Mürren and Schilthorn on the other, and Interlaken with its lakes along the lower edge.

The geography is wonderfully dramatic. Above the skiing terrain rises the great glaciated skyline of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, with the Eiger’s dark rock face standing out against bright snowfields and pale ice. Below, the land drops sharply into the Lauterbrunnen valley before easing out towards villages, rail lines and water. Wengen itself is clearly placed within this mountain structure, linked visually to Wengernalp, Kleine Scheidegg and Männlichen, with the Lauberhorn sector prominently shown and the long Lauberhorn World Cup descent easy to pick out. Across the valley, the Mürren–Schilthorn side forms a second cluster of ski terrain, giving the whole map a satisfying balance.

What makes the piece so engaging is the way painterly landscape and dense ski information work together. The mountains are modelled in blue-grey snow shading, dark striated rock and soft glacial whites, while the lower slopes are textured with blue-green woodland and tiny ochre settlements. Over this, coloured piste lines and black lift alignments trace their way across the terrain, joined by station markers, railway graphics and transport routes. The result is busy in the best sense: full of detail, yet still led by the clarity of the land itself. Even the two lakes, BRIENZERSEE and THUNERSEE, are given real presence in deep blue, with small boats adding a charming note at the foot of the mountains.

For anyone who knows Wengen, this map offers the pleasure of recognition at several scales at once. There is the village itself, then the familiar mountain corridor up towards Kleine Scheidegg and Männlichen, and beyond that the wider setting that makes the area so memorable. For someone planning a future visit, it conveys the region’s special appeal immediately: not just pistes and lifts, but a complete alpine world of ridgelines, railways, valley settlements and high snowfields. As wall art, it has the richness of a map you can return to repeatedly, noticing a new junction, peak label or lakeside detail each time.

The art of the ski map

What gives this panorama its character is its sense of elevation and sweep. Rather than flattening the landscape into a diagram, it lets the Jungfrau region rise and fall in full view, from glaciated summits and cliff faces down to forests, villages and water. That layered perspective gives the map both drama and coherence.

The cartographic overlay adds a second level of interest. Compact lettering, elevation labels, piste markings, lift lines and railway symbols are placed directly onto the painted terrain, creating a map that rewards close attention. It is as enjoyable to follow the routes around Wengen and Lauberhorn as it is to stand back and take in the whole mountain setting.

A sense of place at home

This piece would sit especially well in a sitting room, study or chalet interior, where its cool alpine blues, crisp whites and deep lake tones can bring structure and atmosphere to the wall. Its wide composition suits a space where the eye has room to travel, particularly for anyone with a lasting connection to Wengen and the Jungfrau region.

A thoughtful gift for skiers

This is a particularly meaningful choice for someone who returns to Wengen, remembers a stay in the village, or loves the wider Jungfrau ski landscape. It suits skiers who appreciate not only the runs themselves, but the setting that makes this part of Switzerland so distinctive.

Perfect for:

  • A birthday gift for a devoted Wengen skier
  • A keepsake of a memorable Jungfrau ski holiday
  • A chalet or mountain-home wall piece
  • An anniversary gift linked to time spent in the Alps
  • A retirement present for someone planning more winters in Switzerland
  • A Christmas gift for a family with Wengen memories

It is a map that captures Wengen in its full mountain context, making the place feel both familiar and expansive at once.

Looking for a different resort? You can order a custom map of almost any ski area in the world, with the coverage, colours and layout tailored to your preferences.

This ski area map can also be personalised. We can discreetly mark your chalet, highlight a favourite piste, add a small illustration of you and your family skiing, or include a date and dedication to remember a special trip. Each addition is carefully composed to complement the original map, preserving its character and keeping the mountain detail clear.

Customisation, sizing and framing

For guidance on size, colour or framing, or to discuss an option that is not available online, please contact us. Our team will be happy to advise, and we usually respond within a few minutes.

A familiar resort can hold years of memories: the slope where someone first learned to ski, a much-loved mountain restaurant, or the chalet you return to every winter. Explore examples of our personalised maps for ideas on how to bring those memories into your design.

For a more nostalgic finish, you can choose our optional ageing treatment. Softer tones and a gently weathered appearance give the map the character of a vintage alpine print, particularly suited to a chalet, study or reading room. Browse examples of our ageing treatments to see the different effects.

The model in the listing images is holding the 18x24in (45x60cm) version of this map.

For a larger statement piece, printing and framing at sizes up to 3 metres (10ft) may be available, depending on the original map. For a bespoke size or framing option that is not shown online, please get in touch. We will help you choose a format that makes the most of the map's detail.

The map is available as a giclée print on acid-free archival matte paper, or professionally framed and ready to hang. Our standard frames are offered in six carefully selected finishes: black, dark brown, dark grey, antique gold, oak and white. A wider range of mouldings, mounts and finishes is available through our custom framing service.

Our frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic, chosen for its clarity and light weight. The finish keeps the focus on the map, from the sweep of the mountain range to the finer piste lines and place names.

This map is also available as a float framed canvas, sometimes known as a shadow gap framed canvas or canvas floater. The map is printed on artist's cotton canvas and then stretched over a handmade box frame. We then "float" the canvas inside a wooden frame, which is available in a range of colours (black, dark brown, oak, antique gold and white). This is a wonderful way to present a map without glazing in front. See some examples of float framed canvas maps and explore the differences between my different finishes.

For something truly unique, this map is also available in "Unique 3D", our trademarked process that dramatically transforms the map so that it has a wonderful sense of depth. We combine the original map with detailed topography and elevation data, so that mountains and the terrain really "pop". For more info and examples of 3D maps, check my Unique 3D page.

Our standard frame is a gallery-style black ash hardwood frame, with a simple, modern look. It is approximately 20mm (0.8in) wide. You can also view some lovely customer photos of framed maps and art.

We use super-clear acrylic glazing, also known as Perspex or Acrylite, instead of traditional glass. It is lighter, safer, and has lower reflectivity, giving the artwork a clearer, cleaner appearance.

Six standard frame colours are available at no extra cost: black, dark brown, dark grey, oak, white, and antique gold. Custom framing and mounting/matting is also available for customers looking for something more specific.

Most maps, art prints, and illustrations are also available as a framed canvas. We use matte cotton canvas, stretch it over a sustainably sourced wooden box frame, and then float the piece within a wooden outer frame. The finished result is beautifully presented, with no glazing between you and the artwork.

All frames are supplied ready to hang, with either string or brackets fitted to the back. Very large frames will include heavy-duty hanging plates and/or a mounting baton. If you have any questions, please get in touch.

We can also supply old maps and artwork on canvas, foam board, cotton rag, and other materials.

If you would prefer to frame your map or artwork yourself, please read our size guide before ordering.

Parla di questo pezzo con il nostro team Trade & Projects

Every Unique Maps piece begins with an authentic cartographic source or an original design from our London studio.

For our historic maps, we source rare originals from libraries, archives, auction houses and private collections around the world. We carefully restore each map for print—repairing age-related damage, balancing colour and improving clarity while preserving its original detail, texture and character.

Once restored, the map is prepared for your chosen size and finish. Your piece is then printed and, where selected, framed close to its delivery destination.

Our map prints use acid-free 200gsm archival matte paper and fade-resistant pigment inks, creating a rich, non-glossy finish designed to last. Framed maps use crystal-clear optical acrylic and arrive ready to hang.

Canvas, cotton-rag and other specialist presentations are also available. Learn more about our materials and finishes.
