This is perhaps the most unique and detailed old map of London ever created. This is the complete Poverty Maps of London by Charles Booth, originally published in 1888-9 and lovingly restored by the Unique Maps Co.
Not only an incredibly detailed map of a huge part of central and outer London, Booth surveyed the wealth of every house and street of London. You can see which parts of London were upper class, middle class or even 'semi criminal' back in Victorian London.
It's fascinating to see which parts of London are still middle or upper class - or indeed, which areas have fallen from higher to lower wealth levels.
Originally printed in 12 separate sheets, by 1888 almost all of London's major landmarks are visible on this map - the museums, palaces, and even the Royal Albert Hall which had only been built a few years prior.
This map can be printed at massive sizes up to 5 meters wide (16 feet). It can be customised to fit your space, or to focus on a particular part of London - I can make the map wider, narrower, taller, shorter. Please get in touch with me to discuss your needs.
This map is perfect for zooming in on your street, postcode or borough. I will make every map look like an original Poverty Map, with the legend across the bottom detailing
My large maps are perfect for hotels, pubs, bars and offices - but if you have a large space at home, then they would look amazing there as well!
Please get in touch with me before you order so that we can discuss what you're looking for and make sure that the map you buy will look perfect.
I can also make you a smaller, customised Poverty Map focused on a specific area.
I also have many other large London maps that you may want to consider.
This map is also available as a float framed canvas, sometimes known as a shadow gap framed canvas or canvas floater. The map is printed on artist's cotton canvas and then stretched over a handmade box frame. We then "float" the canvas inside a wooden frame, which is available in a range of colours (black, dark brown, oak, antique gold and white). This is a wonderful way to present a map without glazing in front. See some examples of float framed canvas maps and explore the differences between my different finishes.
For something truly unique, this map is also available in "Unique 3D", our trademarked process that dramatically transforms the map so that it has a wonderful sense of depth. We combine the original map with detailed topography and elevation data, so that mountains and the terrain really "pop". For more info and examples of 3D maps, check my Unique 3D page.
