The Collector’s Offer
Choose two eligible works and receive 25% off both. You can mix and match both maps and art.
No code is required. The offer is applied automatically.
Full terms and conditions
The Collector’s Offer applies to eligible works in standard made-to-order configurations. Bespoke sizes, personalised designs and commissioned work are excluded. Products with “personalised” or “custom” in their name are generally excluded.
The offer is administered as two separate automatic discounts: one for smaller formats and one for larger formats. To qualify, you must purchase two eligible works within the same format group. Maps and art prints may be mixed and matched within each group.
For example, two eligible A4 or 8 × 10 in prints qualify for 25% off both. One smaller-format print and one larger-format work do not qualify together, as items from different format groups cannot be combined to meet the two-item requirement.
No discount code is required. Any qualifying discount is applied automatically in your basket and at checkout.

Map size guide
Maps with intricate detail are best enjoyed at larger sizes, giving smaller place names and features more room to be appreciated. Each map is made to order, so custom sizing is also available: select 'custom size' on the product page and enter your dimensions, or add them to your order notes at checkout.
Your map fills the entire sheet, with no additional white border. The design is presented as shown in the product images. To request extra space around the map, please contact us or leave a note with your order.
Compare a selection of our standard sizes below, shown in landscape and portrait orientation.

| 16x12in (40x30cm) | 20x16in (50x40cm) | 24x18in (60x45cm) |
36x24in (90x60cm) |

| 12x16in (30x40cm) | 16x20in (40x50cm) | 18x24in (45x60cm) |
24x36in (60x90cm) |
Framed maps
Our standard frames add approximately 2cm (0.75in) on each side. For example, a 45x60cm map measures around 49x64cm including its frame, while a 24x36in map measures around 25.5x37.5in. Allow for these outer dimensions when measuring your wall space.
Maps over 125cm/50in usually have wider frames. For a particular frame width or style, explore our custom framing options.
Unframed maps
Planning to frame your map yourself? The guidance below will help you choose the right fit, particularly for larger maps and less conventional sizes.
Choosing a frame that fits
Use the dimensions listed for your chosen map to select a frame. Look for the size of artwork the frame holds, rather than the frame's outer dimensions.
For example, an 18x24 inch map needs a frame that 'fits artwork' measuring 18x24 inches. For a 60x90cm map, choose a frame that fits 60x90cm artwork.
For unusual sizes, such as 24x11 inches (61x29cm), we recommend waiting until your map arrives before ordering a frame. Dimensions can vary by a few millimetres, so measuring the print first will help ensure a good fit.
For a map that needs to fit exact dimensions in centimetres or inches, please contact us. Custom sizing is available at no additional charge for maps over 50in/125cm.
Framing larger maps
Before ordering a separate frame for a large map, wait until your print arrives and measure it. This gives you the dimensions you need to choose a frame with confidence.
If you are using a local framer, take the map with you so they can measure it and make the frame to fit.
Careful mounting helps larger maps lie flat and reduces the risk of rippling. For a professionally finished piece, we would be happy to frame your map for you.
Gift message & custom finish

If you want to add a gift message, or a finish (jigsaw, aluminium board, etc.) that is not available here, please request it in the "order note" when you check out.
Every order is custom made, so if you need the size adjusted slightly, or printed on an unusual material, just let us know. We've done thousands of custom orders over the years, so there's (almost) nothing we can't manage.
You can also contact us before you order, if you prefer!
Approve before printing
After we make your map, we’ll email your design proof. Nothing is printed until you approve it, and you can request changes first.

Continue readingTitled “Abington,” this 1920 United States Geological Survey topographical map presents a finely measured portrait of southeastern Massachusetts at a moment before the region’s later suburban expansion. Drawn at the practical 1:62,500 scale, it encompasses Cohasset, Hingham, Abington, Norwell, Rockland, Pembroke, Duxbury, Kingston, Weymouth, and Scituate, linking coastal settlements with inland towns through a precise language of contours, roads, railways, and waterways. Though named for Abington, the sheet’s interest extends across a broad landscape of harbor communities, wooded uplands, ponds, and river corridors. Its careful representation of elevation and infrastructure captures a region balanced between old maritime traditions, small-town industry, agriculture, and the early networks that would shape modern commuting patterns.
The United States Geological Survey brought to maps like this a distinctive authority rooted in systematic fieldwork, standardized symbols, and national ambition. By the early twentieth century, USGS topographical sheets had become indispensable tools for engineers, planners, educators, travelers, and local officials, translating the American landscape into an accurate and elegant visual system. Here, the familiar period palette is both functional and quietly beautiful: land in soft green, water in blue, roads and railroads in fine linear detail, and contour lines threading across the sheet to describe every rise, hollow, ridge, and valley. The result is not merely a guide to place, but a disciplined portrait of terrain, settlement, and movement.
Cohasset and Hingham are among the map’s most evocative coastal communities, each carrying deep associations with Massachusetts maritime history. Hingham, with its long harbor tradition and shipbuilding legacy, appears within a wider network of roads, rail lines, and waterways that speak to its role as both an old seaport town and a modernizing suburb of Boston. Cohasset, celebrated for its rocky shore, sea views, and historic village character, anchors the map’s coastal edge with a sense of New England permanence. Nearby Weymouth and Scituate further enrich the maritime setting, while inland towns such as Rockland and Abington reveal the industrial and residential patterns developing beyond the shoreline.
The topographical character of the sheet is especially compelling in its treatment of southeastern Massachusetts’ modest but varied landforms. Unlike the dramatic mountain maps of the American West, this landscape is shaped by subtler features: low hills, shallow valleys, wetlands, ponds, and river systems left by glacial history. North Lake and South Lake stand out as important inland water bodies, while the North River winds through a landscape of town boundaries, marshy margins, and wooded ground. Contour lines give structure to this seemingly gentle terrain, revealing drainage patterns, slopes, and natural corridors. Roads, trails, and railways intersect these features, demonstrating how settlement adapted to the land rather than simply overriding it.
Viewed historically, the map preserves a landscape on the edge of transformation. In 1920, much of the area still retained open land, village centers, rail-based travel, and older road systems, even as automobile routes such as what would become State Route 3A and State Route 53 pointed toward a new era of regional mobility. Since then, population growth, suburban development, expanded infrastructure, and environmental change have altered many of the towns shown here. That contrast gives the map particular value: it records Cohasset, Hingham, Abington, Norwell, Pembroke, Duxbury, Kingston, Weymouth, Scituate, and their surroundings before the full force of twentieth-century development reshaped the South Shore.

Every piece is printed to museum-grade archival standards using fade-resistant pigment inks on acid-free matte paper. Choose an unframed map print, framed map or canvas using the finish options above. Framed maps use crystal-clear optical acrylic and arrive ready to hang.
With its rich detail and strong sense of place, this map makes a considered gift for a new home, anniversary, retirement or anyone with a personal connection to the area shown. Still deciding? Explore our collection of rare old and vintage maps to discover another place, period or style.
This map is also available as a float framed canvas, sometimes known as a shadow gap framed canvas or canvas floater. The map is printed on artist's cotton canvas and then stretched over a handmade box frame. We then "float" the canvas inside a wooden frame, which is available in a range of colours (black, dark brown, oak, antique gold and white). This is a wonderful way to present a map without glazing in front. See some examples of float framed canvas maps and explore the differences between my different finishes.
For something truly unique, this map is also available in "Unique 3D", our trademarked process that dramatically transforms the map so that it has a wonderful sense of depth. We combine the original map with detailed topography and elevation data, so that mountains and the terrain really "pop". For more info and examples of 3D maps, check my Unique 3D page.

Our standard frame is a gallery-style black ash hardwood frame, with a simple, modern look. It is approximately 20mm (0.8in) wide. You can also view some lovely customer photos of framed maps and art.
We use super-clear acrylic glazing, also known as Perspex or Acrylite, instead of traditional glass. It is lighter, safer, and has lower reflectivity, giving the artwork a clearer, cleaner appearance.
Six standard frame colours are available at no extra cost: black, dark brown, dark grey, oak, white, and antique gold. Custom framing and mounting/matting is also available for customers looking for something more specific.
Most maps, art prints, and illustrations are also available as a framed canvas. We use matte cotton canvas, stretch it over a sustainably sourced wooden box frame, and then float the piece within a wooden outer frame. The finished result is beautifully presented, with no glazing between you and the artwork.
All frames are supplied ready to hang, with either string or brackets fitted to the back. Very large frames will include heavy-duty hanging plates and/or a mounting baton. If you have any questions, please get in touch.
We can also supply old maps and artwork on canvas, foam board, cotton rag, and other materials.
If you would prefer to frame your map or artwork yourself, please read our size guide before ordering.
We work with interior designers, hospitality businesses, property professionals, offices and corporate buyers on individual pieces and larger coordinated projects.
This map can be adapted for a particular wall, room or project, and our workshop can help coordinate the dimensions, material and framing before production.
- Exact, oversized and made-to-measure dimensions
- Custom framing, mounting and alternative materials
- Coordinated pieces for several rooms or locations
- Map personalisation, to mark important locations or add extra details
- Map and framing guidance from our workshop
- Local production for projects around the world
Every Unique Maps piece begins with an authentic cartographic source or an original design from our London studio.
For our historic maps, we source rare originals from libraries, archives, auction houses and private collections around the world. We carefully restore each map for print—repairing age-related damage, balancing colour and improving clarity while preserving its original detail, texture and character.
Once restored, the map is prepared for your chosen size and finish. Your piece is then printed and, where selected, framed close to its delivery destination.
Our map prints use acid-free 200gsm archival matte paper and fade-resistant pigment inks, creating a rich, non-glossy finish designed to last. Framed maps use crystal-clear optical acrylic and arrive ready to hang.
Canvas, cotton-rag and other specialist presentations are also available. Learn more about our materials and finishes.
