Read the full product descriptionRadierung für die ‘Deutsche Kunstgemeinschaft’ (1926) by Wassily Kandinsky introduces viewers to the artist’s mature abstract language at a pivotal Bauhaus-era moment. Created as an etching, the work distills his fascination with point, line, and plane into a poised arrangement of geometric and organic forms. In 1926—the same year he published his influential treatise on abstract composition—Kandinsky pursued a visual syntax that could communicate feeling without depicting recognizable subjects. Here, crisp black lines on a pale ground stage a quiet drama of balance, tension, and rhythm.
This listing offers a museum-quality fine art print of the original 1926 etching, available on acid-free, archival matte paper or richly textured artist’s cotton canvas. Choose from a range of sizes, with optional framing in black, white, or natural wood to suit your space. The Unique Maps Co. can add custom borders, title captions, or a personalized dedication, and we’re happy to accommodate special sizing or framing requests to create a perfectly tailored piece.
Wassily Kandinsky—Russian-born, Munich-trained, and a central figure at the Bauhaus—stands among the foremost pioneers of abstraction. His writings and teaching shaped generations of artists and designers, and his art sought the “inner sound” of form: how circles, lines, and angles might resonate like notes and chords. By the mid-1920s, he had refined a uniquely lyrical geometric vocabulary that married intuition with rigorous structure.
This particular composition is notable for its poised interplay of elements: measured lines intersect and hover near circles and squared forms, while subtler, more organic contours soften the geometry. The result is a purposeful equilibrium that captures the historical shift from representation to pure abstraction—an exploration of how arrangement alone can suggest movement, harmony, and depth. As a graphic work, it also testifies to Kandinsky’s experimentation with printmaking, where the etched line becomes both instrument and voice.
Visually, the piece is elegantly restrained: black ink articulates the image against a warm, pale (almost beige) ground, emphasizing contour, interval, and the orchestration of space. Straight edges converse with fluid curves; dense clusters give way to calm, open fields. That clarity makes the work extraordinarily versatile—striking in a minimalist interior, compelling in a modern living room, study, or creative studio. It pairs beautifully with neutral palettes and natural materials, and its balanced design offers long-view serenity with close-up intrigue.
A refined choice for lovers of modern art and design, this Kandinsky print makes a thoughtful gift for Christmas, housewarmings, birthdays, Mother’s or Father’s Day, or for anyone drawn to Bauhaus-era innovation. It’s also a meaningful present for travelers and art historians alike—an elegant reminder of the moment when lines and shapes learned to speak on their own.
If you're not sure what size to order, or you're looking for a custom order of some kind – a different size, a different colour, a special frame – then please contact me. I usually respond within a few minutes.
You can see an example of my fine art personalisation service in the fifth image. Zoom in and take a look. My personalised artwork is always very well received. Take a look at more examples of personalisation.
You can also choose to age your art print to make it look older. This is popular amongst my customers who want their artwork to look like an older, antique print. You can see an example of ageing in the sixth product image, or go ahead and check out lots of examples of other aged artwork.
The model in the listing images is holding the 18x24in (45x60cm) version of this art print.
I can print and frame this beautiful piece of art at sizes up to 3 metres (10ft). If you are looking for a size or framing option that isn't available online, please get in touch.
This artwork is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. My standard frames come in six colours (black, dark brown, dark grey, antique gold, oak and white), and custom framing is available for an additional charge. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.
This artwork is also available as a float framed canvas, sometimes known as a shadow gap framed canvas or canvas floater. The work is printed on artist's cotton canvas and then stretched over a handmade box frame. We then "float" the canvas inside a wooden frame, which is available in a range of colours (black, dark brown, oak, antique gold and white). This is a wonderful way to present an art print without glazing in front. See some examples of float framed canvas art and explore the differences between my different finishes.
